Vectron International Announces Comprehensive Low Jitter Frequency Control Product Support for Synchronous Ethernet
Frequency Translation and PLL Offerings Effectively Bridge Legacy and IP-based Networks, Meet Communications Customers' Demand for Seamless Performance

Vectron's
combine inherent high Q quartz-based oscillators with advanced performance PLL designs that enable communications customers to bridge high quality clock synchronization to the Ethernet.

In today's ever changing telecommunications market, SONET / SDH infrastructure is not optimized for heavy data traffic, presenting service providers with scale and cost issues. Ethernet, as a packet-based technology, has become the main solution to these challenges, enabling service providers to deliver all offerings over a single link. However, timing sensitive applications and bandwidth optimization requires synchronization which is not possible with traditional Ethernet. For example, in cellular communications, synchronization helps to limit dropped calls and in content delivery to the home, synchronization enables network providers to optimize available bandwidth so consumers can watch their favorite shows in high definition. Synchronous Ethernet is an approach that enables synchronization to be distributed over the physical layer of the Ethernet network in similar way to the SONET / SDH standards.
The FX-424 is a precision quartz-based frequency translator that is ideally suited to translate an input frequency of 19.44 MHz to 156.25 MHz and can be used for low jitter timing on both the Clock Card and Line Card side of a Sychronous Ethernet Application. The FX-424 can perform either up or down frequency conversion. The FX-424's superior jitter performance is achieved through the use of a precision Vectron VCXO or VCSO. With the use of an external multiplexer, up to 4 different input clocks can be translated to a common output frequency. The FX-424 is designed with an inherent flexibility in mind, allowing it to be easily customized for non-standard applications.
The CD-700 is a 5x7 mm quartz-based phase lock loop solution that can be configured to remove clock jitter from noisy reference signals that are between 1 MHz to 80 MHz. Particular to Synchronous Ethernet, the CD-700 can phase-lock to a 25 MHz reference that varies as much as ±100 ppm and can provide a "clock-smoothed" output with less than 1 ps-rms jitter. As with the FX series, the CD-700 derives its low jitter output from a precision Vectron VCXO. It also includes a digital phase detector, op-amp, and additional integrated functions for use in digital synchronization applications. Loop filter software is available as well SPICE models for circuit simulation.
The FX-730 is the industry's smallest analog PLL and is used as a low jitter precision frequency translator to translate input frequencies such as 19.44, 38.88, 77.76 MHz, etc. to a binary multiple frequency as high as 850 MHz. Similar to the CD-700, the FX-730 is also extremely useful for clock smoothing, but at higher frequencies such as jitter cleanup at 156.25MHz. The FX-730's superior jitter performance is achieved through the PLL's integrated VCSO. The FX-730 is housed in a hermetically sealed small form factor 5x7mm leadless surface mount package.
